It sounds too simple to be true, but by reading regularly with your children during their preschool years, you are giving them the biggest boost toward a successful education they will ever get.

Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library will help you read with your child.  There are many reason parents do not read to their child, but we can eliminate one of them.  Every child will have books of their own, AT NO COST TO YOU, thanks to the United Way and the Dollywood Foundation.

Each month, a new, carefully selected book will be mailed in your child’s name directly to your home.  He/she can look forward to new and exciting reading adventures from the Imagination Library until he/she turns 5 years old.

Who is eligible?

Any preschool child from birth to age five, living in Putnam County.

Background

Dolly Parton's Imagination Library was developed in 1995 by Dolly for her hometown of Sevier County, Tennessee. Dolly wanted all preschool-age children to have their own unique library of books. The effort received numerous awards and extraordinary media attention which generated interest from across the country. After much thought, Dolly decided to offer her Imagination Library for replication in any community that would support it.   In Putnam County, the United Way is the sponsoring organization. 

How to Sponsor a Child
Sponsors are needed to support this program of the United Way. The cost of the Imagination Library books averages $2.25 each, or $27 per child per year.
