Basic Facts:
BASIC FACTS
·
The United
Way is present in nearly 1,400 communities throughout the
U.S. Each is independent, separately incorporated and
governed by local volunteers.
· What’s
Raised Here Stays Here! Every dollar raised during the
annual fund raising campaign is reinvested in Putnam County
agencies serving Putnam County people. 100% stays here in
Putnam County.
• During the annual citizen-review process, local volunteers
assess community needs and determine how to distribute funds
so that donors know their money is serving the most pressing
community issues, reaching the people who are most in need.
·
Because of
this volunteer system of fund raising and the efficiency of
employee campaigns and payroll deduction, the fund raising
cost of United Way is only 5 to 10% of all funds raised
annually. This low figure compares favorably with the
suggested Better Business Bureau guidelines of up to 40 percent.

MORE THAN A FUND RAISER…
Today
United Way is known to be a “Community Change Agent”. Our
work in identifying the greatest needs of Putnam County
brings us to ask ourselves, “Now what can we do about
that?” The answers are usually found by bringing the right
people to the table and brainstorming until the most
practical solution is found. We seek to eliminate
duplication in services to the needy and sometimes, in that
process we identify gaps in services.
